Sound the Alarm

On May 1st, the American Red Cross, Mastic Fire Department, and Mastic Beach Fire Department joined forces to enhance safety across Suffolk County. Volunteers spread out to install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the homes of families in need. This collaborative effort aimed to ensure that all residents have access to essential life-saving devices. The dedication and hard work of everyone involved have made a significant impact on our community’s safety. The Mastic Fire Department is proud to have hosted this event, demonstrating the power of teamwork and community spirit.

We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the American Red Cross in Greater New York, Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano, PSEG Long Island, National Grid, and all the amazing volunteers who joined us today for Sound the Alarm in Suffolk County

120 Years of Combined Service to Mastic FD

Ex-Chief Pete Rosato and Ex-Chief Don Ruben have together dedicated an impressive 120 years of service to our community.

Ex-Chief Pete Rosato is being recognized for 70 years of service this month. Pete joined the Mastic Fire Department in May of 1954. He was an active firefighter who worked his way through the officer ranks culminating in him serving as Chief of Department from 1960 through 1962. Pete provided dedicated service to our department while working in his career as a full-time truck driver.

Ex-Chief Don Ruben is being recognized for 50 years of service this month. Don joined the Mastic Fire Department in February of 1974. He was an active firefighter who worked his way through the officer ranks culminating in him serving as Chief of Department from 1987 through 1988. Don provided dedicated service to our department while working in his career as a full-time employee of the William Floyd School District.

Jason Lasek was honored as the outgoing 1st Lieutenant for 2023

The Mastic Fire Department’s 2023 Installation Dinner was an incredible celebration of dedication and service. This year’s dinner was a memorable event, honoring the outstanding efforts of our members.

Overturned Car on Mastic Road

This evening just before 5pm, the department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Mastic Rd and Mastic Blvd, right in front of fire headquarters. Two vehicles collided causing one to overturn. One person required heavy extrication from the overturned vehicle. Two patients were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital by the Mastic Ambulance Company for evaluation of their injuries. Members also secured both vehicles and cleaned up debris.

Car Into House

Just before 6:30am this morning the department was activated for a report of a car into a house on William Floyd Pkwy north of Sunrise Hwy. Chief Rudy Sunderman arrived to find that a single vehicle had indeed lost control and struck a house. The collision caused extensive damage to both the home and the car. Members secured the car and searched the home, thankfully finding it unoccupied. The single occupant of the car was transported to Brookhaven Hospital by the Mastic Ambulance Company for evaluation of his injuries.

Man charged with DWI after crashing into Mastic home

A man was charged with drunken driving Sunday evening after he crashed a car into a Mastic home and fled, authorities said.

Mastic restaurant Manor House destroyed in morning fire

A Mastic restaurant destroyed by an early morning fire Sunday is being investigated by Suffolk County police arson detectives and the Brookhaven Town fire marshal’s office.

The fire started about 5:05 a.m., police said. A spokesman for Suffolk County Fire Communications said the blaze was battled for more than two hours and was declared under control at 7:11 a.m.

Firefighters from Mastic, Mastic Beach, Brookhaven, Yaphank, East Moriches, Eastport, Ridge, Manorville, Bellport and Center Moriches responded.

Video: Squatter pulled from burning, vacant Long Island house

A squatter was burned in a fire at a vacant house on Montauk Hwy., between Fulton and Oakland Avenues, in Mastic at a blaze that erupted a few minutes before midnight. The victim was airlifted by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center by a SCPD MEDEVAC chopper. The Mastic Fire Dept., under the command of Chief Rudy Sunderman Jr. responded to the scene. SCPD officers from the 7th Pct. responded as well. Mastic Fire Dept. was assisted by several surrounding departments who also responded. The fire is under investigation. The fire was declared under control in approx. one half hour.
